-“This woman can make you dream, cry, and fall in love. What more could you desire…” (The Music Advocate, Washington)

-“Quite simply, Denise Jannah is one of the best jazz singers to come along in the 25 years I’ve been writing about music.” (Award winning jazz author and critic Gary Giddins in the New York “Village Voice”)

-“Based in the Netherlands, singer Denise Jannah made a few records for Blue Note some years back, but she remains vastly underrated, one of the few singers around who truly meets the standards set down by the generations that gave us Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan and Carman McRae. Her supple and spontaneous phrasing, exquisite intonation, respect for a lyric and richly textured yet clear-as-a-bell vocal color are the kind of qualities that never go out of style.” (Mark Stryker Detroit Free Press Columnist)

-“If you’re having trouble keeping track of the score of female singers swamping the current jazz scene, let me save you some trouble: Denise Jannah is worth your time.”
(Detroit Free Press)

Surinamese born Denise Jannah has made her mark in not only the Dutch Jazz scene, but also internationally. Renowned for her stage presence, her rich voice, impeccable phrasing, diction and timing, she is also admired for her warm personality that makes her audience feel like special guests in her comfortable living room. Jannah is a Jazz vocalist who doesn’t shy away from other musical styles like Latin, Gospel, Fusion, Pop, Surinamese and World music. Being multilingual and easily moving and grooving in different styles is her forte. She’s always looking for a new challenge to widen her artistic horizon.
She has many solo albums to her name of which 3 have been released on the prestigious Blue Note label, and numerous awards among which are two Edison Awards (Dutch equivalent to the US Grammy Award).
Denise toured and performed at jazz festivals all over the world and has performed for a.o. former presidents Nelson Mandela, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and Beatrix, Queen of Holland, and has been decorated by both president Venetiaan and Queen Beatrix.

Colijn is very honoured to again play with Denise – this time at the JazzIbar Festival Kraljevo, Serbia. The line-up will be:
